PROMINENT Bulawayo lawyer Joseph James (pictured) has died.

James, a partner at Moyo-Majwabu and Nyoni Legal Practitioners, succumbed to cancer yesterday evening, family friend Delma Lupepe said. He was 59.

Lupepe, who rushed James to the Royal Women’s Clinic yesterday afternoon, said the veteran lawyer was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of the year.

“He was a brave man. Sadly, he lost this fight to cancer. He had been sick for close to six months. I rushed him to hospital in the morning, he passed on at around 6:30PM,” Lupepe said. Survived by his wife and four children, James is a former President of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and Chairman of the Sports and Recreation Commission of Zimbabwe.

He had also been a Trustee of the Legal Resource Foundation (LRF) since 2008 and at the time of his death he was the chairperson of the Board of Trustees.

Mourners are gathered at No. 6, Bucknall Clause in Kumalo, Bulawayo.
