Top modelling agency scouts for talent

TOP Model Zimbabwe is inviting aspiring young models to visit their offices for auditions.

Successful models will get a chance to participate in upcoming local and international pageants.

For the past two years, the modelling agency has been using online platforms to scout for talent due to the Covid-19 regulations that discouraged physical gatherings.

However, the virtual process excluded several models from disadvantaged backgrounds. They either could not afford expensive gadgets or did not have data access to be online.

However, due to relaxed Covid-19 regulations, Karin Evans Coric, the president of Top Model Zimbabwe, said they are now resuming physical trials.

“The modelling industry is presently overwhelmed with events. We need models who can participate in several local and international events. Thus, we are calling upon all aspiring models to visit our Harare offices in Emerald Hills,” said Coric.

“This year the modelling industry is promising to be very busy. Right now we have received some invites from many countries to participate in upcoming events. In the first week of May, we are going to Warsaw in Poland.”

Back home, she said, many pageants are going to kick start next month with the climax being the Miss World Zimbabwe competition. The modelling agency has been in existence for the past 28 years and is credited for grooming several stars among them Tatenda Ruby Mawungo, Hildah Mabu, Lauren Maclntosh and Paula Walsh.

Coric reckons modelling is a lucrative venture for youngsters.

“This is a good business and I urge all talented individuals to give it a try. I have seen many models going very far and making a fortune through modelling. The younger generation should not be discouraged to follow their dreams in the field,” she said.

However, Coric warned the public to be cautious when engaging modelling agencies as some of them are bogus and involved in illegal activities such as human trafficking and prostitution.

“There is a need to engage agencies that have been cleared by the police and other relevant authorities. The agency should also have a traceable reference. Also, when going for international competitions, the event(s) have to be cleared first by relevant departments.

“Human trafficking is real. There have been several cases reported over the past years hence the need for caution all the time. It is dangerous to cut corners,” she added.
