A CLOUD of grief hangs over Clipsham, Masvingo, after two young sisters were burned to death in a horrific fire that ripped through their home while they slept.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the heartbreaking incident, which occurred on 17 July, saying the victims, girls aged just two and four, were sleeping in a room that mysteriously went up in flames.
Neighbours woke up to the crackle of fire and the screams of helplessness but it was too late. By the time the blaze was extinguished, the toddlers had been reduced to charred remains.
The children’s lifeless bodies were taken to Masvingo General Hospital for post-mortem examinations as investigators scramble to determine what caused the deadly inferno.
“The cause of the fire is not yet known,” police said in a brief statement.
