VISITING Botswana President Duma Boko yesterday toured the Geo Pomona Waste Management facilities in Harare as part of his itinerary.
The tour took place after he jointly chaired the Zimbabwe-Botswana Bi-National Commission with President Mnangagwa.
He was taken through the recently opened Sprout Restaurant, sporting facilities, the weighbridge and the encapsulation unit by Geo Pomona Waste Management CEO and executive chairman, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya.
Speaking after the tour, Dr Nguwaya said President Boko’s visit symbolised the company’s growing lure in the region.
“It means that the work we are doing here at Geo Pomona is being endorsed by Southern African Presidents,” he said.
“They are appreciating the job that has been done here. As we are aware, the place used to be an eyesore.”
Dr Nguwaya said the facility has become both a local and international attraction.
“No one wanted to live in this place. But we are seeing the transformation happening here. So, everyone is coming to appreciate it. It is now a centre of attraction at local, national and regional levels. The projects are attracting significant interest.”
A number of local and international organisations and individuals have previously toured the facility, which, apart from cleaning the environment, will generate 22MW of electricity.
