AT least 67 girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in Burma Valley have benefited from a donation of reusable sanitary wear by a local development partner.
The donation follows calls that menstrual kits must be made available and affordable while education about menstruation and stigma around the biological process must continue.
Hope for Kids director Mr Misheck Kugoda said their organisation is committed to ensuring that disadvantaged and vulnerable girls in rural communities stay in school and avoid disruption of their lessons or studies when they go through their menstrual cycle.
He added that their aim is to promote menstrual hygiene management.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the donation, saying it will greatly help in improving their menstrual health. They said many girls in the area could hardly afford menstrual kits due to soaring costs.
First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa has in the past said it was time to break the silence, raise awareness and change negative norms around menstrual hygiene management and make concrete commitments at local and national levels.
