Toyota Zim to recall faulty Corollas

manager Mr Carl Varga said the seven vehicles to be recalled had been imported directly by the customers from other markets.
“They are Corollas that were imported directly by the customers themselves from other markets.
“None of the seven were sold through Toyota Zimbabwe or produced in the Toyota South Africa factory in Durban, which produces the vehicles officially sold by us in Zimbabwe,” said Mr Varga.
He said the affected customers would be notified on the procedure from Toyota Motor Corporation.
“We will give them basic technical information and ask them to bring in their vehicles in to any one of our branches to have the initial inspection.
“We stress these vehicles are simply to be checked, there is no mandatory action required,” he said.
Last week Toyota Motor Corporation announced that they were recalling more than 7,4 million vehicles including the Yaris, Corolla, Camry and Rav 4. Recent international media reports said selected Toyota brands had been found to have some defects, which raised concern among users across the continent.
Toyota is one of the most popular brands of vehicles in Africa, with the majority of them being reconditioned imports from Japan and South Asia
In South Africa, it has been reported that the company would recall close to 53 000 cars but the Zambian arm of the company said the models being sold in Zambia had not been affected by the recall.
The vehicles affected are limited to some of the 2009-2010 Toyota Rav 4, certain 2009-2010 Toyota Matrix and the 2008-2010 Toyota Avon, 2007-2010 Toyota Highlander, 2007-2010 Toyota Camry, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra and 2008-2010 Toyota Sequoia.
