TRAPPED WITH TUSKS! Man nabbed with ivory worth USD55K

B-Metro Reporter
IN a dramatic takedown straight out of a movie, a 58-year-old man from Chief Sengwe, Chiredzi, has found himself behind bars after being busted with a sack of ivory stuffed on his motorbike like smuggled groceries!

Robert Litlhatlha, now officially a guest of the State for the next nine years, was pounced on at Davata Market on March 25 by a joint operation of game rangers and police officers. Acting on a hot tip from Gonarezhou National Park informants, the authorities stormed in and sniffed out a 3.5kg elephant tusk and an eland horn stashed away like dirty laundry.

The loot – valued at a jaw-dropping US$55 000 – had no legal paperwork, and the suspect couldn’t produce even a shred of a permit. He was immediately cuffed and dragged before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court, where the gavel came down hard.

Litlhatlha, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), was found guilty of violating the Parks and Wildlife Act and slapped with a heavy 9-year jail sentence.
