Traveller’s rebate now covers clothes, shoes

yesterday, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority announced the new rule under Statutory Instrument 22A of 2012.
The traveller’s rebate is a duty allowance which is granted once per calendar month subject to prescribed conditions which include that they shall not be for commercial purposes and that the goods are properly declared.
SI 22A of 2012 was published in an extra-ordinary Government Gazzette yesterday.
Government raised duty on textile and clothing products in the 2012 National Budget to promote the local industry.
But this triggered an out cry as imported products became more expensive while local industry cannot meet demand.
