TREVOR Mawaka is a true creative shapeshifter. From a primary school teacher with a love for the arts, to chorale director, author, and Bulawayo Children’s Choir leader, he has now added radio presenter to his résumé.

Mawaka is the new host of Arts and Showbiz Showcase on a local radio station, a programme that highlights local artistes from Bulawayo and the greater Matabeleland region, giving them a platform to showcase their craft.

“It’s a good feeling to be doing radio again. About a decade ago, I did my attachment at Spot FM, now Classic 263. Moving away from radio, I focused on education and music, but it’s great to be back,” Mawaka said.

His early experience at Spot FM laid the foundation for broadcasting, while his work leading the Bulawayo Children’s Choir established him as a cultural force, nurturing young talent and building confidence, discipline, and artistic excellence.

Beyond music, Mawaka has also authored books, reflecting his dedication to storytelling and cultural preservation. Whether through song or text, his work centres on community upliftment and creative expression. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
