TRIANGLE bounced to winning ways, albeit with a laboured victory over struggling debutants Tsholotsho in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Gibbo yesterday.
A goal in either half by Nhamo Lameck and Felix Kuswatuka gave the Sugar Sugar Boys the full points.
The visitors were denied a goal by the reflex save of Ashley Reyners after he stretched to clear the ball which bounced off the woodwork before he collected it safely after a mis-kick by his own defender Tichaona Chipunza.
Triangle’s first real opportunity came in the 17th minute but Pasca Manhanga’s shot from his weaker left foot went straight to Tsholotsho goalkeeper Mariyoni Change after the midfielder was put through by Graham Ncube.
Triangle manager Kelvin Kaindu made a first half tactical change taking out Hardlife Mavhundi for Richard Kawondera in the 35th minute and the decision paid dividends.
Kawondera was involved in Triangle’s first goal when he released a clever ball to Ncube who played it wide to Malvin Gaki.
The Young Warriors winger then crossed a perfectly weighted ball to Lameck whose header gave Mariyoni no chance in the 40th minute.
Tsholotsho could have pulled one back in the 58th minute when Kriess Chitiyo worked his way past Triangle defenders but his hard and low effort beat Reyners only to go inches wide off the post.
The chances were few and far between in the second half before Kaindu introduced super-sub Kuswatuka.
Kuswatuka was quick to register his presence as he set up Kawondera but the striker sent his shot over in the 69th minute.
Former Gunners man Kuswatuka then took matters into his own hands as he scored with only five minutes to play to vanish any hopes of a come-back for the visitors.
Kuswatuka benefited from a rebound after Kawondera’s headed effort from a corner was cleared by Mariyoni and the striker was quick to react and unleash a screamer from close range.
Tsholotsho coach Lizwe Sweswe said his team played well but the final result is not what they expected after “a disciplined show’’.
“The boys played very well but we failed to bury the few chances we created. Triangle is a good side and they capitalised on every mistake we made,” said Sweswe.
Triangle assistant coach Biggie Zuze was a happy man after picking only one point from the previous three previous outings.
“It’s good for us to collect maximum points, we lost three games and we felt we played well especially against Dynamos and FC Platinum. We played well and managed to score two against a well disciplined team”, said Zuze.
