LLOYD CHITEMBWE’s Triangle United continued their win-less streak, failing to collect maximum points in four straight matches as they were held by Bulawayo Chiefs at Gibbo yesterday.
Triangle found their goals from Jayden Bakari in the first half and Emmanuel Paga off a late penalty struck four minutes from time, while Godswill Gwara and Anesu Saiti found the target for Chiefs. Triangle started well and created a couple of good chances in the opening quarter of an hour, but they were not clinical in front of goals. The visitors’ first sight at goal came a minute later through seasoned striker Brian Muza, but the pint-sized striker failed to punish the hosts, literally passing the ball to the opposition goalkeeper from 10 yards after a good pass from Saiti. Muza was presented with another golden opportunity to put the Amakhosi ahead in the 27th minute, but his effort was always going wide after another pass from Saiti, who played very well for the visitors.
In fact, Muza only lasted five minutes after his miss as he had to leave the action following a pulled hamstring. The home side showed some tenacity taking the lead on the cusp of half-time, Bakari finishing off after good work from Chatuluka. Triangle went to the half-time breather leading, but the visitors made them work for the goal. Bulawayo Chiefs came back firing on all cylinders, and striker Gwara’s effort was ruled offside after some good link-up play with Saiti just 10 minutes after the restart.
Gwara was cautioned for contesting the referee’s decision but came back more determined, scoring barely a minute later and finishing with ease after a good through ball from Saiti, who was arguably the best player on show.
Chiefs continued knocking on Triangle’s door, and Nkosilati Ncube’s chance to put the away side in the lead was well saved by an alert Nyabunga, who kept his team’s hopes alive in the 67th minute.
