TRIANGLE United ended their five match win-less run with a comfortable victory, winning 3-0 over Bikita Minerals at Gibbo yesterday to move out of the relegation zone for the first time this season.
Triangle’s last win before a run of five draws on the trot came against GreenFuel when Triangle registered their biggest win in the league at the same venue, 5-1.
The Sugar Sugar Boys played some good football before a good crowd that included Tongaat Hullets CEO Tendai Masawi who dedicated his afternoon to come and motivate the boys as they fight to stay in the top-flight league.
Yesterday’s victory marked Triangle’s tenth match without defeat and a huge turnaround for the Lowveld side since Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe took over from Luke Masomere in April.
Mangombe only lost four of the seventeen matches that he has been in charge and the youthful gaffer was proud of his charges.
“I am delighted, it’s always a coach’s desire to win games and also to have players playing according to your philosophy. I am happy that we managed to score three goals versus Bikita Minerals, it’s a local derby as we share the same home ground and from the same region.
“Although we are not safe from relegation, I am happy that we managed to pull out of the drop zone for the first time this season. We need to keep working hard and keep the momentum and surely we will be safe,” said Mangombe.
Triangle started with intensity and scored as early as the sixth minute. Arnold Mawadza rose highest to score from close range heading in a well taken corner kick by Denzel Chatuluka.
They were ruthless from set play and scored in the same fashion with defender Jordan Pedra’s glancing header off a corner kick by Nomore Chinyerere giving Bikita Minerals goalkeeper Tawanda Dendera no chance in the 50th minute.
Bikita Minerals coach Wilson Mutekede introduced some fresh legs after the hour mark and they started pushing forward and could have pulled one back, but Triangle goalkeeper Takudzwa Chikosi made a match winning save denying Royn Nyamondo from close range just after the hour mark.
Triangle continued knocking and Bikita Minerals opened up when man of the match Chatuluka danced past the visiting defence to set up Elton Njini who made no mistake in the 65th minute. Chatuluka claimed his second assist of the match.
Mutekede was disappointed with the result and the way they have lost all nine points within seven days.
“It’s disappointing losing three nil, this is the third consecutive defeat and this does not sound right in terms of competitiveness. These defeats are attributed to intensity of the games versus the depth of our squad given that we have played three games inside seven days,” he said.
