A HAULAGE truck overturned yesterday at the newly-constructed Trabablas Interchange after the driver failed to negotiate a curve.
The truck was travelling from the city centre towards Glen Norah when the incident occurred.
The driver was taken to hospital.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident yesterday and said investigations were underway.
Yesterday’s accident follows a previous mishap last month in which a local transport operator was ordered to repair significant damages at the Interchange.
In that earlier event, a truck driver ferrying granite failed to manoeuvre and his load fell, causing damage to guard rails and the newly constructed pavement.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development issued a statement regarding the prior incident, confirming that the truck involved belonged to Tika Chem Investments (Pvt) Ltd, located at 551 Empowerment Way, Willowvale, Harare.
The ministry directed the company to undertake full repairs of the damaged infrastructure at their own cost.
The truck was impounded by the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) for further investigation and the company was informed that it would be released once the repairs were satisfactorily completed and after VID had conducted necessary inspections to ensure safety standards.
Added the Ministry: “We urge all citizens to report any acts of vandalism or negligence that may result in damage to roads, bridges, or other critical infrastructure.
“You can assist by sending videos, pictures, or reports of such incidents to the relevant authorities. Failure to report vandalism or infrastructure damage contributes to unnecessary financial burdens on taxpayers.
“Let us all work together to protect and preserve our national infrastructure for the benefit of present and future generations.”
