THERE is no easing into the job when you take over Highlanders.
And for Try Ncube, it does not get much bigger than a pressure filled home tie against a confident MWOS side that has already beaten Bosso once this season.
This afternoon, Bosso walk into Barbourfields Stadium under new leadership, with Ncube stepping up as interim coach following the departure of Zambian gaffer Kelvin Kaindu earlier this week. The stage is the ever demanding Emagumeni. The opponent? Tricky league newcomers MWOS, who’ve earned a reputation for unsettling the established order.
Ncube is well aware of what’s at stake.
“We are prepared to face them, and I believe we are going to get the result,” he said.
“The mission is to win, but it’s not going to be easy. We’ve worked on lifting the players mentally, the mood has changed. We’re going to fight for the badge and push for the outcome we want. As an ambitious coach, I know what has to be done.”
Ncube will be assisted by former Warriors striker Agent “Ajira” Sawu. The two previously served as Kaindu’s first and second assistants, and now have the task of steadying a Highlanders side that has looked anything but stable in recent weeks.
Bosso come into the match needing more than just a win. They need a reset. They were edged 1-0 by MWOS in the reverse fixture, a result that underlined the newcomers’ quality and composure.
MWOS arrive in Bulawayo having finally tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing last Sunday to 2023 champions Ngezi Platinum Stars after an impressive 16 match unbeaten run.
That result could go one of two ways: it could dent their confidence or fire them up even more.
For Bosso, this is about reclaiming ground, calming a restless fanbase, and giving Ncube a solid start in what could be a defining period for the club.
Meanwhile, over in Harare, CAPS United host struggling GreenFuel at Rufaro Stadium. Makepekepe, who have blown hot and cold this season, are desperate to reassert themselves as contenders after some patchy form.
At Gibbo, Triangle United, now under the stewardship of former Dynamos coach Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe, take on free spending newcomers Scottland FC, in what promises to be an intriguing tactical contest.
