Tshabalala Warriors crowned champions of YFSSA Under-11 Sevens Tournament

Tshabalala Warriors emerged victorious in a fiercely contested youth football tournament held yesterday at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds in Bulawayo. The event, hosted by Young Flying Stars Football Academy and sponsored by Toppers School Uniforms, was designed for under-11 players competing in a fast-paced 7-a-side format.

The tournament brought together seven teams in a celebration of local talent, discipline and competitive spirit. From the first whistle, it delivered high drama and closely fought encounters, culminating in a final remembered for its intensity and nerve.

The semi-finals set the tone for the day’s action. Tshabalala Warriors displayed tactical discipline and sharp execution to edge past hosts YFSSA (A) with a narrow 1–0 win. On the other side of the draw, Lobengula United overcame LaMasia E.M Sports Academy by the same scoreline, showing composure and resilience against a technically gifted opponent. Both matches were tightly balanced, with chances at a premium and defensive organisation proving decisive.

The final between Tshabalala Warriors and Lobengula United lived up to expectations, ending 1–1 after regulation time. With neither side able to find a winner in open play, the match was settled by penalties. In a tense shootout, Tshabalala Warriors held their nerve to convert five spot-kicks to Lobengula’s four, sealing the title and sparking jubilant celebrations among players and supporters alike.

The tournament featured a strong line-up of academies and local sides, including YFSSA (A), YFSSA B, LaMasia E.M Sports Academy, Mountain Climbers Football Academy, The Brazilians, Lobengula United, and the eventual champions, Tshabalala Warriors.

With the backing of Toppers School Uniforms and the organisational efforts of Young Flying Stars Football Academy, the tournament was a resounding success. It not only showcased emerging talent but also reaffirmed sport’s role in building community and character. Tshabalala Warriors’ triumph was a fitting end to a day defined by passion, perseverance and promise.
