Tsomondo excites Dobson

WESTERN PROVINCE coach John Dobson says he is excited about having Cheetahs and former Zimbabwe Under-20 forward Tapiwa “Homely” Tsomondo as part of his side set to take on Namibia in a rugby friendly tomorrow. Namibia are using the game as part of their preparations for the Africa Cup / World Cup qualifier tournament set for Madagascar at the end of this month where they will play Zimbabwe, Kenya and hosts Madagascar.

“We’re particularly excited about the selection of (flanker) Tapiwa Tsomondo, who is still Under-21. “Tapiwa is a product of our excellent amateur scouting system and he came to our attention via the WP Under-21 trials which were recently held.

“He is raw, but an exciting prospect and we’re relishing the chance to work him and help him develop even more.

“He will play as our fetcher this week but he also has excellent ball-carrying abilities and we look forward to seeing how he fares against someone like Rohan Kitshoff whom, of course, we know very well at WP.

“As I said, the breakdown is an area we need to improve on and Tapiwa will have a role to play there,” Dobson told the South African media. With several tournament appearances for the Zimbabwe Sevens side, Tsomondo has been left out of the Sables squad that is expected to go into camp on Monday and tomorrow he will be part of the South African franchise that is helping the Namibians prepare for their battle against Zimbabwe.
