Tuku’s farewell gig slated for Pamuzinda

tour will see him perform with Chimurenga icon Thomas Mapfumo on March 15 in London and the following day in Leicester in what has since been dubbed a History Tour 2013.

So it is during the Pamuzinda Highway Xscape family show where Tuku together with his prodigy Munya Mataruse and Utakataka frontman Peter Moyo are expected to bid farewell to loyal fans in style.

Tuku has travelled the length and breadth of the globe, preaching love, unity and essence of family unity through music.

Fast rising Mataruse is expected to open the show just after lunch, with a number of hits from his growing discography. There is no doubt that the young man is surely becoming a household name and a future star on the country’s entertainment arena.

Fans should look forward to dance to a number of his hit songs that include “Ndoenda”, “Matope”, “Marunjeya” and “Dzuke” which is arguably the most popular of Mataruse’s songs.

Because of the wide and diverse backgrounds and experiences that the three will bring to this show, fans would be spoilt for choice, between katekwe, contemporary beat fused with shangara dances and sungura, which would be belted by young Moyo.

Moyo, who is learning the ropes much faster than expected, is expected to churn out a number of both danceable and mellow tunes from his late father’s discography spanning over 15 years.

For a man who only started music seriously after his father died, Young Igwe has not really disappointed, but has given his best either by learning to play the guitar or just improving his voice intonation.

Many of his late father’s fans and his will have an opportunity to dance to a number of hit tracks that include the soulful “Zvinorema”, “Gandaremvura”, “Nemvura Mese”, “Naye”, “Muchina Muhombe” and “Kapuka Kanonzi Rudo”.

But probably the pinnacle of the show would be grand entrance of Tuku on stage between 4pm and 6pm, where he is expected to give his best to his fans whom he will mis for the next three months.

With Tuku, you can never be sure which song he is mostly likely to play because of his huge discography boasting over 50 albums, transcending between different periods and with different meanings.

But whatever he chooses to play, his fans will definitely savour each song, they are all great songs judging by the response from the crowds no matter which ones he plays. He also has great ability to relive yesteryear memories.

His fans would still be able to dance and enjoy themselves whether he plays “Mbombera”, “Akaromoka Awa”, “Chiri Nani”, “Mwana Asingacheme”, “Tozeza Baba” or “Watitsvata” (Pata Pata) that is currently receiving heavy rotation at parties and in clubs throughout.

Show organiser Tawanda Chiraga said he was expecting a bumper crowd on this farewell gig.
