ROSE Makumbe, the woman who claims she had a son with the late music icon, Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi, says the grave of her brother, Jerry Makumbe, is in a very bad state.
Jerry was Tuku’s long-time friend and manager. The legendary musician even penned a song dedicated to Jerry when he died.Rose, 70, claimed that she had a romantic relationship with Tuku and the two had a son.
She said she was 16 when she started dating Tuku and their son is now 45. Now, she wants the remaining members of the Black Spirits to put a tombstone on her brother Jerry’s grave.
“All I am asking from the Black Spirits Band made up of Charles Njekesa, Prosper Mashipe, Samantha Mtukudzi, Donald Kanyuchi, Nigel, Innocent, Simbarashe and Rodwell Roda is a befitting tombstone for Jerry’s grave. The grave is now in a bad state and it doesn’t send a good picture for someone who once rocked such a high-profile band.
“My brother practically put the band together but they have deserted him, I’ve been having dreams of my brother saying they should remember him and acknowledge everything he did for them to have careers.
“My brother helped put together the Black Spirits band, from drums to everything.”
Rose also took a swipe at the Tuku family’s reluctance to accept her son into the family.
“I got impregnated at the age of 16 but I never got married to the legend, I never had a problem with that because we agreed and he took care of his child.
“Tuku was best friends with Jerry, their friendship is the reason why l met him in the first place.
“As a mother, I’m also not happy about how my child hasn’t claimed his birthright. All l want is for my son to inherit his last name, it’s not about money or inheritance but a sense of belonging as an individual.”
