Tumor patient appeals for help.

A Gwanda man who was diagnosed with a tumor on the lower jaw earlier this year is appealing for financial assistance for a mandibulectomy for tumor and reconstructive planting.

Mr Muziwandile Sibanda (22) of Shake Village Gwanda North Constituency was diagnosed with a tumor earlier this year, and it’s bad and deteriorating daily.

According to his brother Mr Mbukisenezweni Sibanda, the problem started as a toothache earlier this year and deteriorated to the extent that he could not even drink water.

“It started as a toothache, suddenly changed to be a lump. It was operated on at Gwanda PSMAS. We thought he had healed. It, however, recurred, his lower jaw started growing bigger and bigger until he could not eat anything,” he said.

He said he was transferred to a specialist in Bulawayo, who conducted scans and blood tests. The results confirmed a tumor, which had caused significant damage to the lower jawbone.

“We were referred to another surgeon in Harare, where we were then told that he needed US$ 10 000 for mandibulectomy for tumor and reconstructive planting,  which we are failing to raise. Hence, we are appealing to well-wishers to assist us and help save our sibling” he said.

“The operation is urgently needed, not to guarantee a cure, but to remove the damaged tissue and prevent the tumor from spreading or else they will remove the whole lower jawbone,” Mr Sibanda said.

He noted the this procedure is part of an ongoing process, aiming to remove the damaged tissue and pave the way for further diagnostic testing.

“We are appealing to well-wishers that may be able to share the little that they have,” he added.
