The death of West Coast rap legend, Tupac Shakur, has had the hip-hop community scratching its head for the past two decades.
A new National Geographic docu-series “The ‘90s: The Last Great Decade?” examines the fateful night in Las Vegas, when the California rapper was gunned down, and the events surrounding his murder.
The three-night, six-hour series features a segment on the fallen soldier chock full of in-depth interviews with Arsenio Hall, Malcolm Greenridge (a member of Tupac’s Outlawz clique), and director Gobi Rahimi, who was with ‘Pac during his last few hours.
“We were fearful (whoever shot Tupac) was gonna come finish him off,” Rahimi recalls of the night he spent in the hospital following Tupac’s shooting.
The clip also addresses rumours surrounding Pac’s rivalry with the Notorious B.I.G as well as allegations that members of his Outlawz crew smoked his ashes.
Greeenridge doesn’t weigh in on the latter issue claiming, “Pac told us mystery sells, so I’ll let people wonder.”
However, the rapper does allude to the fact that Tupac’s death is the direct result of a conspiracy.
“Law enforcement around the country weren’t big Tupac fans,” he said. “I’m absolutely positive they know what happened. This is America. We found Bin Laden and I have no doubt that they know what happened to one of the greatest rappers ever.”
“The ‘90s: The Last Great Decade?” is set to air from July 6 to July 8 at 9pm EST. – VIBE.
