TUSKERS are sending their B team to Botswana where they will play three Twenty20 matches in Gaborone against that country’s national cricket team who are preparing for the T20 World Cup qualifiers.
Nicholas Singo, the Tuskers general manager said the players have been working hard at Bulawayo Athletic Club prior to their departure for Botswana on Thursday. The matches are taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Njabulo Ncube, a former Zimbabwe national team bowler who also turned out for Tuskers will be the coach of the Bulawayo franchise’s second string side on their tour of Botswana.
Thabo Mboyi is one of the senior players making the trip to Botswana alongside Tafara Mupariwa who will captain the team. Pace bowler Charlton Tshuma, who did well in the Pro50 and Twenty20 matches for the Tuskers first team is also heading to Botswana.
“We are looking at youngsters who are coming through. Shane Nxumalo and Bright Phiri are some of the promising youngsters who did not get a chance to play for our first team. Our B side has not had much games at that level, they are playing the Botswana national team, this would be a great opportunity for the boys,’’ Singo said.
Tuskers B have not played much cricket this season with the only fixtures being the ones against the Alistair Campbell High Performance Programme team at Queens Sports Club at the beginning of this year.
