A Harare man who is an Ordinary Level private tutor is said to have accessed this year’s Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) Ordinary Level English Paper 2 and distributed it to some of his students who are sitting candidates, the court heard yesterday.
The offence came to light when one of the students was caught revising the paper in Mhondoro.
Victor Kabondo (37) claimed that he got the paper from Godfrey Nhari (46).
Kabondo and Nhari yesterday appeared in court together with their accomplices Enock Sithole (21) and Juliet Zikonyo (20).
They are facing a charge of contravening the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council Act by gaining “access to examination material before the examination”.
Magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe remanded the quartet out of custody to November 24.
Prosecutor Ms Sharon Mashavira alleged that on October 20 Nhari sent the paper to Kabondo through WhatsApp. According to the State, Kabondo is a private tutor who teaches Ordinary Level students.
It is further alleged that the question paper was given to various Ordinary level students including John Hwati a student at Nyamashesha Secondary school in Mhondoro.
Hwati was seen by other students revising the paper on the day of the exam, the State alleged. They reported him to the school’s headmaster who then reported to the police leading to Hwati’s arrest.
Hwati, the court heard, implicated Nhari, Kabondo, Sithole and Zikonyo.
Upon their arrest, Nhari told the police that he got the paper from Godfrey Nyamuremwa who works for the University of Zimbabwe.
