THE Zifa Southern Region league has struck a broadcasting deal with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) that will see selected matches beamed live a albeit without financial gain for the clubs, at least for now.
The public broadcaster beams live a selected match every Saturday.
So far only fixtures played in Bulawayo have been beamed live since the start of the 2017 season but plans are in place to take the live broadcasts to Matabeleland North Province, where a number of Zifa Southern Region teams are based.
The Zifa Southern Region is a 16-team league.
a?So far the broadcasting deal does not include financial gain for our clubs as is the case between the Premier Soccer League and SuperSport but that is an issue that we are looking into.
a?We are just happy our teams are being exposed to a wider audience and players have a better chance of being scouted by bigger clubs.
a?In June we hope to start broadcasting matches in Matabeleland North so that football fans can also watch teams from that part of the region in the comfort of their homes,a? said league chairman Musa Mandaza.
The 18 Premier Soccer League clubs will each receive $22 000 annually in accordance with the broadcasting rights deal signed between the PSL and giant broadcaster SuperSport.
Meanwhile, Morgan Mungombe of Chiwororo FC will receive the Nokel Security top goal scorer of the month award before his team plays against Zim Leopards at White City Stadium on Sunday.
He scored four goals and will receive $150.
