TELEVISION personality Massie Bondamakara hosted a function in Mudzi on Thursday night to honour living legends from her rural home.
This event was a celebration of influential figures who are dedicated to community development.
Bondamakara said countless individuals in Zimbabwe have made significant contributions which deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
“We must celebrate those who have bettered our communities before it’s too late,” she said.
The gathering celebrated notable community developments, including the construction of bridges, clinics, and hotels, along with initiatives aimed at uplifting the underprivileged and creating employment opportunities.
The guests included former Deputy Minister of Mines Magna Mudyiwa, Mudzi West Member of Parliament Knowledge Kaitano, gospel musicians Charles and Olivia Charamba, Bishop Farai Katsande, athlete Kennias Tembo and the Katonha twins Farai and Tendai.
PK Chiunye, who made headlines when he attracted foreign tourists to Mudzi with his talking drums, also attended the function.
Local artists brought vibrancy to the event.
Sekuru Hodzi, who was a local leader, was recognised posthumously.
“We are honouring living legends as well as those who have passed, starting with our very own Mudzi District.
“This is our Living Legends Appreciation Night.”
Bondamakara shared her journey, recalling moments when her dreams felt distant and the obstacles were overwhelming.
“The early days were far from glamorous,” she said.
“They demanded persistence, resilience and belief, even when success seemed unattainable.
“In the struggle, character is forged, and purpose becomes clearer.
“This journey laid the foundation for my hosting of ‘The Living Legends Show’ on ZBC TV—a platform dedicated to documenting our collective greatness and celebrating Zimbabwe’s rich human resources.
“Today stands as a testament that perseverance pays off. Greatness is not merely an accident, it’s cultivated over time through resilience and selfless service.
“I am deeply thankful for the support from those who believe in this initiative.”
Bondamakara wants to expand this initiative to various districts throughout the country, ensuring local heroes are celebrated and their contributions remembered.
