TRANSPORT and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has commissioned 20 road maintenance tractors.
Min Mhona said the maintenance tractors were going to be distributed among the country’s 10 provinces.
He said the tractors were designed to cut grass and clear bushy areas along the country’s road network.
“As a Ministry, we are very happy and honoured to start this project so that we know at the end of the day that as much as we are fixing our roads, we need to also maintain them and keep them in good shape.
“So, it was a directive from the Cabinet to say let’s resuscitate our maintenance units.
“The essence of this is to make sure that you don’t need to outsource as a Department of Roads
“We need to continuously monitor our roads and if they develop cracks we need to fix them as soon as possible.
“If they develop potholes, we need to attend to them with speed and not give excuses for machinery.”
Min Mhona added:
“We have also procured road marking machines, if you drive at night, you can actually see the lights clearly and it’s safer to drive now because the roads are well marked.
“We are working together with our parastatals, we have our Traffic Safety Council and we also have ZINARA, to make sure we have a better Zimbabwe.
“These tractors are going to be shared among all the 10 provinces.”
