Two arrested with dagga, broncleer

TWO suspects – James Takawira (23) and Lancelot Takawira (26) – were arrested in Penhalonga last night around 11pm after being found in possession of dangerous drugs in Penhalonga.
The duo, both from Dangamvura in Mutare, were found with a 20 litre bucket of and 356 sachets of processed dagga, and 49x100ml Broncleer cough syrup at the Penhalonga cabins.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the arrest, adding that they were charged with contravening Section 157 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 09:23) – possession of dangerous drugs and Section 29 (A) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act (Chapter 15:03) – selling unregistered specified medicines.
“On September 25, at around 11pm, James Takawira (23) and Lancelot Takawira (26), both from Dangamvura, Mutare, were found in possession of 356 sachets of processed dagga, 49x100ml Broncleer cough syrup, and a 20-litre bucket of loose processed dagga at Penhalonga Cabins, Penhalonga Business Centre.


“The circumstances are that the police officers were on patrol at Penhalonga Shops. Upon receiving a tip-off that the two accused persons were in possession of dagga at the business centre, they responded promptly, arresting the two accused and recovering the aforementioned drugs,” he said.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said the two suspects were subsequently escorted to Penhalonga Police Station, pending referral to court.

Investigations are in progress.
