TWO men who allegedly attempted to rob a shop in the Mzilikazi suburb have been arrested and appeared in court facing a charge of attempted robbery.

Ted Karanjisi (32) and Sambulo Ndlovu (48) appeared before Bulawayo Senior Regional Magistrate Mr Mark Dzira.

They were not asked to plead but confirmed the allegations they are facing.

They were advised of their legal right to apply for bail at the High Court and to engage legal representation. The pair was remanded in custody until June 25.

On June 7, 2026, shortly after 9pm, the three accused allegedly arrived at commercial premises in Barbourfields,

Bulawayo, armed with a pellet gun and a knife.

Prosecuting, Ms Hazel Ncube stated that the accused intercepted an employee who had stepped outside the premises, using physical force to push her back into the shop.

“When they were inside the shop, they produced the pellet gun, pointed it at the complainant, Everthrough Siziba, and ordered everyone to lie down. They demanded cash and proceeded to search the complainants’ mobile phones,” said Ms Ncube.

Whilst they were allegedly demanding cash and threatening to shoot the complainant, a customer knocked at the main entrance and was ordered inside by one of the accused.

“The man entered the shop and, upon seeing that the intruders were armed, he quickly wrestled and overpowered one of the robbers, disarming him of the pellet gun. The complainant also tackled another accused who was armed with a knife, overpowering him whilst screaming for help,” said Ms Ncube.

“At that moment, a mob flocked to the scene and apprehended two of the robbers, whilst the third fled.”

The crowd effected a citizen’s arrest and handed the two suspects over to the police.

The weapons used were recovered and seized under seizure number 0047627.
