TWO men from Mapfumo Village, under Chief Rukweza in Hwedza, have been arrested for stock theft after they were intercepted heading two stolen heifers.
Two others remain at large.
The incident occurred on Sunday at around 2am.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the arrest.
He identified the suspects as Trymore Nemarere, 41, and Tawanda Mutanda, 32.
“Luckson Mabvudzi, 40, of Zviyambe Village, was driving from his farm towards Gonesa Mukamba to attend a funeral around 11 pm on November 1 when he spotted the two accused herding cattle suspiciously along a farm road towards the Rukweza area.
“Mabvudzi immediately contacted ZRP Dorowa via cellphone,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.
Acting on the tip-off, officers from ZRP Dorowa and ZRP Mukamba, swiftly teamed up and pursued the suspects.
The police intercepted the pair and recovered the stolen cattle.
“Upon questioning, the accused claimed they had bought the beasts from two other men, identified as Tafadzwa Nemarere and Tinashe Chiwashira, both from Mapfumo Village.
“The two alleged sellers fled the scene and are currently at large,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.
The complainant, Dennis Magaya, 40, was informed and confirmed ownership of the recovered heifers.
The stolen heifers are valued at US$1,000.
Ass Insp Chinyoka urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
“We continue to encourage communities to work closely with law enforcement and report crime as soon as it is detected.
“Together, we can prevent and reduce criminal activities,” he said.
