TWO TEACHERS HONOURED FOR HELPING UNDER-PRIVILEGED STUDENT

TWO teachers from Masawi Primary School in Mhondoro were recognised for the good Grade 7 results obtained by one of their students who had to walk EIGHT kilometres every day to attend class.

Tawananyasha Kaungwa attained six units in this year’s Grade 7 exams.

He is expected to walk the same distance to attend another school for his secondary education next year.

Tawananyasha is good in athletics and basketball.

Felix Chiworeso and Shelton Nyika, the two teachers, each received three suits, three shirts, two pairs of shoes, three pairs of ties, three pairs of socks and cash from the school’s former student, Leader Chakuwana Rukuni, of Hibre Fashions.

Rukuni said she was impressed by the efforts of the teachers and hoped that other people would support their former schools.

“I was very impressed by Tawananyasha’s results considering the distance he walks from his village to school,” said Rukuni.

“He emulated the efforts shown by his two teachers and that touched me. I saw it best to thank the teachers with what I can afford.

“I did my primary education at Masawi School and, as an old student, I want to challenge other people to support their former schools.

“President Mnangagwa encourages us to build our nation brick by brick and I saw it best to support our teachers and my former school,” she said.
