The Ministry of Health and Child Care has approved water facilities at the Midlands Agricultural Show and dispatched a team to work closely with Midlands Show Society to prevent the spread of typhoid, which has wreaked havoc in Mkoba killing seven people and affecting approximately 800 others.

Midlands Show Society manager Mrs Victoria Chikukwa said the show management was on high alert for typhoid and had put in place adequate measures to prevent the spread of the water-borne disease.

Mrs Chikukwa said the Midlands Show Society had roped in the Red Cross and the Ministry of Health and Child Care to ensure that the disease does not spread during the show, which kicked off on Friday.

She said its water facilities had been cleared by the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

“We have been working with a team from Ministry of Health and Child Care in the preparation for the show,” Mrs Chikukwa.

“They are happy with our water facilities. They have also advised to ensure that we make water available at places that are convenient to exhibitors and everyone else coming to the show.”
