United Arab Emirates has pledged to deepen cooperation with the Pan African Parliament with an initial pledge of US$500 000 that is meant to improve the continental legislative body’s information communication and technology infrastructure.
UAE Ambassador to South Africa Mahash Saeed Alhameli handed over ICT equipment on Thursday.
He said the Arab country has set its sights on helping improve PAP’s ICT system, starting with an assortment of accessories worth US$500 000 to be installed in the next few weeks.
Receiving the equipment, PAP president, Chief Fortune Charumbira hailed UAE and said the Arab world and Africa are a united family.
“We are brothers, we are one family. The majority of the Arab world is in Africa. Let us continue with our good relationship,” he said.
PAP is currently holding its Fourth Ordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament.
Zimbabwe is being represented by Zanu PF Chief Whip, Cde Pupurai Togarepi; Mberengwa North MP, Cde Tafanana Zhou; Matabeleland North MP Cde Elizabeth Masuku and Glenview North MP, Mr Happymore Chidziva.
