Udine Products resumed operations last week after closing down in 2006.
In an interview, the managing director, Mr Crispen Mugova, said the company faced a number of challenges which forced it to close.
“The company was closed sometime in 2006 and that was because we failed to restock and faced many operational challenges and financial constraints,” he said.
He said the $600 000 injected was about half of the $1,3 million needed to resuscitate the company so that it operates at full capacity.
“We managed to raise only $600 000 to start operations and from that we acquired specialised machinery and serviced old ones so as to manufacture quality products,” said Mr Mugova.
He said production at the company was still subdued as they were training workers on how to use and operate the specialised machines.
“A lot of skilled personnel left the country for greener pastures when the economy went down and now we are recruiting and training new workers on how to operate specialised machinery so we are yet to operate at 100 percent,” he said.
Mr Mugova also said he was happy the company had opened at the right time as the economy was recovering.
“In terms of the construction industry, we came at the right time as the economy is recovering. Of late, people were buying construction material from backyard stores but now that we have reopened, we assure them of quality materials,” said Mr Mugova.
Udine Products manufactures construction material such as face bricks, blocks, gully surrounds, air vents, garden edges, interlock pavers and kerbstones.
