Ugandan soldier kills 9 people, commits suicide

Kampala — Nine people were shot dead and 12 injured by a drunken soldier in a brawl over a woman in western Uganda, officials said yesterday.
After going on a shooting spree in a shopping mall in the town of Karugutu, 350km west of the capital, Kampala, late on Saturday night, the soldier killed himself, army spokesperson Ronald Kakurungu said.
“The soldier had gone to a disco and disagreed with people there over a woman. He then went to the barracks, picked up a gun and shot dead four soldiers and four civilians. One soldier died later. He then shot himself dead,” according to Kakurungu. — Sapa
