TALENT-laden Gaza High School of Chipinge will represent Manicaland in the national Under-17 boys’ soccer finals to be hosted by Nemakonde High School in Mashonaland West.
The vetting exercise starts today (Friday), while the matches will be played tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday. The U-17 tournament was once sponsored and known as the M and H tournament, but the withdrawal of the sponsor owing to financial constraints left it unbranded.
For Gaza High School, it was sweet revenge when they won the right to represent the province after they got the better of bitter rivals Mutare Boys’ High School, in the provincial finals played at Nyanga Country Club recently. A total of 12 schools which include Nyangani, Nyashanu, Crossdale, losing finalists Mutare Boys’ High, Muzokomba, Chimanimani, Chipinge, winners Gaza High, St Augustine’s, Vengere, Chishakwe and Nyakuipa participated in the provincial finals.
Meanwhile, secondary schools in Manicaland will also compete in the U-20 provincial finals slated for early third term, while the national finals will also be held in September during the course of the third term. The provincial finals have been set for Buhera, while the national finals will be held in Nkayi District of Matabeleland North.
