Unbridled beauty: Zimbabwe’s top tourism ranking speaks volumes

Kayak recently announced its Travel Check-in Report, which listed Zimbabwe and Morocco as the world’s top travel destinations for 2025.

A reputable metasearch travel engine, Kayak is a platform that aggregates information on content related to travel and assists travellers in finding affordable hotels, rental cars, flights, and vacation packages.

Zimbabwe’s innate attractiveness, multiculturalism, diverse topography, and cultural patrimony appeal make it a ‘hotspot’ destination for tourists worldwide.

This global travel platform, Kayak’s rating, illustrates an evolution in visitors’ preferences by integrating authentic experiences with a destination’s accessibility and affordability.

Thus, Zimbabwe offers this special blend of adventure, cultural richness, natural beauty, inexpensiveness, and slow-travel potential.

While this is not the first time Zimbabwe has been acknowledged as a top tourist destination – in 1999, the country held the fourth position in Africa’s most attractive tourist destinations, after Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria.

Moreover, Zimbabwe was recognised as the 2014 “World’s Best Tourist Destination” by the European Council on Tourism and Trade in May of that year, making it the first African nation to be awarded.

This recognition for 2025 is a significant achievement the country has received, consequently increasing its focus as a top global holiday destination for travellers based on the famous sights, including Hwange National Park, Great Zimbabwe, and the Victoria Falls.

Also, the growing demand for flight searches to Zimbabwe surged, attracting business tourists or investors, offering an opportunity for tourism development and growth.

Zimbabwe boasts incredible biodiversity, with diverse ecosystems that support a wide array of flora and fauna.

The country offers authentic and unique wildlife safari experiences in Mana Pools that attract many travellers, and the Eastern Highlands brings misty mountains and winding trails.

The friendly and welcoming nature of Zimbabweans, which makes visitors feel at home, is one of the unstated factors contributing to this highest ranking.

Zimbabweans’ amazing warmth and friendliness foster a peaceful environment that is safe and more enjoyable, making it inherently more attractive to visitors.

As a recommendation, Zimbabwe tourism stakeholders should maintain this prestigious accolade by further addressing issues affecting the travel experience and developing a resilient and solid sustainability plan to meet the changing expectations of travellers.

Although some may find this unrealistic or unduly ambitious, I am confident that Zimbabwe will become the most popular travel destination in Africa and the world.

Sharon Washegear, a patriot whose positivity about Zimbabwe is unmatched, wrote on her Facebook page: “We’re now reaping the rewards and taking back what rightfully belongs to us, the top tourist destination.”
