Unchallenged!. . .Top contenders disqualified

THE Zifa electoral committee yesterday disqualified three candidates that were set to contest for the office of the association’s executive committee posts whose elections are slated for December 1.

Aspiring Zifa presidential candidate, Felton Kamambo, former Southern Region chairman, Gift Banda, who was eyeing the vice presidency post as well as former Chicken Inn treasurer Mlungisi Moyo who had picked up nomination papers for committee member’s position were all disqualified with the electoral committee saying reasons for their disqualification will be communicated to the affected individuals.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) electoral committee met on 2 November 2018 to verify credentials of candidates who submitted nomination forms for positions in the executive committee.

Executive committee members, Sugar Chagonda, Stanley Chapeta, Chamu Chiwanza, Phillimon Machana, Bryton Malandule, Barrymore Manandi. For those disqualified, reasons for disqualification will be communicated directly to the concerned individuals,” reads a statement signed by the electoral committee chairperson, Vusilizwe Vuma yesterday.

Chronicle Sport has it on good authority that Kamambo and Banda were disqualified because of three major reasons.

Besides being improperly nominated, Kamambo is said to be sitting on a three-year suspension handed to him by Zifa and hence did not pass the integrity test while Banda was also said to be still undergoing rehabilitation having been previously suspended.

With Chiyangwa and Sibanda’s opponents disqualified, the 60 delegates in the December 1 elections will now vote for four members from the six aspiring executive committee member while the other two will come from the Premier Soccer League and the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League to bring the full committee to eight members.
