groups are taking advantage of the tour to embark on business errands in Beira.
A contingent of more than 500 war veterans, spirit mediums and traditional leaders visiting three shrines in Mozambique told that country’s authorities that they should not allow ordinary people to visit the shrines.
One of the issues they raised was that some of the people would use the visit to the shrine as a disguise when in fact they were on private business to buy bales of used clothes in Beira for resale at home.
The hired buses are not searched, thereby evading payment of import duty.
Another issue raised by spirit mediums was that some people conducted some rituals aimed at enhancing their business.
The visit by war veterans from across the country was co-ordinated by war veterans Harare province chapter led by Cde Charles Mpofu.
Cde Mpofu told District administrator for Manica province Cde Benedito Nchochoma who was accompanied by more than five officials and provincial security chiefs drawn from the police and the army that they were worried by the sudden interest some Zimbabweans have developed in coming to Chimio.
“We are not happy with some people coming here, we need to be in constant communication with you so that we are kept informed about those people coming here. Only members of the security forces on duty should be allowed,” said Cde Mpofu.
People coming to the shrines are not subjected to searches neither are they asked to produce passports and this was now being abused by some people to enrich themselves.
“It’s a betrayal of those who lie here, don’t you think that these boys and girls did not want to see a new Zimbabwe. So why taking advantage of these comrades to enrich yourself,” asked Cde Mpofu.
Spirit medium for Nehoreka, Sekuru Solomon Shambira said some people would go to Chimoio to conduct some rituals to enhance their businesses. He then ordered the removal of some clay pots that are believed to have been put by people from some apostolic sect which he said was not proper.
Sekuru Shambira said some of the rituals done by some of these people coming to the shrines were infact aimed at undermining the country’s leadership.
Sekuru Shambira said the frequency of visits by some individuals to the shrine was strange. Some had visited the venues more than 10 times.
“Why are you not keen to visit the national heroes acre where heroes lie, or have you visit the grave of your parents as often as you are doing here,” he asked.
In response, Cde Nchochoma said what was important for Zimbabweans was to chart what was good for their country.
“Even in our Mozambican culture we respect graves and we don’t want people to tamper with them,” he said.
The delegation visited Tembwe in Tete province, Nyadzonia and Chimoio in Manica province.
The spirit of Nehoreka is one of the many spirit mediums that assisted in the execution of the struggle by providing spiritual guidance and Sekuru Shambira was in Mozambique with the fighters during the struggle.
In light of the machinations by the West, which saw Libya falling, there was a compelling need for African countries to be vigilant and be united, said Sekuru Shambira.
“The West want to plunder our resources, this is why they have attacked Libya, here where a lot of resources like diamonds, gold and many others, we need to exploit these resources fully,” he said.
Sekuru Shambira led the rituals. They concluded their rituals by visiting Great Zimbabwe as part of returning the spirits of fighters to Zimbabwe.
