“We are up for tough opening matches tomorrow more so against Oilers who have always given us a hard time whenever we meet. This season they have acquired new players who are good while the ones they had last season have upped their game.
“I am not underrating ZB Titans but I think they are a much easier side compared to Oilers,” said Mabhena.
He said in last weekend’s pre-season tournament, they met Oilers whom they edged by six points on their way to winning the competition with a 43-33 victory over Highlanders.
Mabhena said the pre-season tournament had prepared them for the league. He said they were already working at their shortcomings identified during the tournament.
In other matches lined up for today, women’s runners up from last season Lakers take to the field against Highlanders while new boys Southern Mavericks will test their readiness for the league with a clash against ALCC who finished third last season in the men’s category.
The last match of the day will pit pre-season tournament runners up Highlanders against Giants.
Meanwhile, Joe Mujuru the BBA secretary general said this season they were working on securing sponsors for the league.
“We are working flat out to get a sponsor this season for the league as well as tournaments so that we are able to give prize money to winners,” Mujuru said.
