AFRICA Youth Congress president, Cde Taurai Kandishaya, has called on young people across the continent to unite in the fight against unemployment and poverty, drawing powerful parallels between today’s economic struggles and historic battles against slavery and colonisation.
Speaking at Kenya University last night on the role of youth in shaping Africa’s future, Cde Kandishaya said that collective action remains the most potent weapon for overcoming modern challenges.
“Just as past generations mobilised to defeat slavery and colonialism, today’s youth must unite to dismantle poverty and unemployment,” he said. “My fellow youth can do better by following in the footsteps of our founding fathers.”
He noted that unity among oppressed people was the decisive force that collapsed slavery and later defeated colonialism. “When slavery was at its peak, they mobilised each other to bring it down. So even now, when we are faced with economic warfare, we need to come together and collapse unemployment and collapse poverty.”
Cde Kandishaya also appealed to African youth to support Zimbabwe’s bid for a United Nations Non-Permanent Security Council seat, underscoring the importance of solidarity beyond national borders.
“As much as it is a government-to-government initiative, their support will go a long way in amplifying Zimbabwe’s voice on the global stage,” he said.
