ZANU PF national spokesperson Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa has urged Zimbabweans to unite in honour of the country’s liberators and the security forces that are defending the country’s sovereignty.
Addressing a gathering of children born during the liberation struggle in Highfield, Harare on Tuesday, Cde Mutsvangwa said liberators fought the most brutal war, more than any other region, to free the country from the shackles of colonialism.
“If there is an army which fought in Africa and defeated the colonial master who had never been seen on this earth, the British empire, it is us and the empire was feared by many countries,” he said.
“The British empire was feared by many and it partnered with America to form NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation). They wanted to make sure that their colonial rule would never be removed.
“Even if it was removed, they wanted to make it replaced with a black colour, but white inside. This is what they wanted, but an initiative that was derived from this house, made us focus on liberating our country.”
A national executive of the children born during the liberation struggle was appointed during the function. Chairperson of the organisation, Cde Gloria Kaisa, pledged their full support in defending the country’s sovereignty.
“It was a touching moment for us as we were able to know the path that our parents moved and also that we should, at all costs, preserve peace in our country. We have to preserve what our parents fought for and we have to preserve our independence,” she said.
Cde Mike Marongedze was appointed the vice secretary-general, while the secretary for finance is Cde Tatenda Mahachi, with his vice being Cde Nokuthula Shumba and Cde Tonderai Mugabe being the political commissar.
Cde Freedom Kangai was appointed vice political commissar while Cde Anne Muvhuti became the secretary for information and publicity, deputised by Cde Jayne Chimuka.
Secretary for security is Jeffery Konoria, with Cde Theodore Chinowaita being his deputy, while Cde Hondo Tongogara was appointed the secretary for legal affairs, deputised by Cde Kuda Zvinavashe and Cde Jethro Dauramanzi took the secretary for indigenisation and economic empowerment.
The organisation is an affiliate of the Zanu PF and has a huge membership across the country, whose vision is to educate progressive citizens on the importance of the gains of the country’s hard won independence.
