adminLONDON. — Zlatan Ibrahimovic labelled Manchester United as the “biggest club he has played for” after scoring the winning goal on his competitive debut for club in the 2-1 Community Shield victory over Leicester City on Sunday .
The Swede, who signed for United on a one-season contract after leaving French champions PSG, says United are a bigger club than Barcelona.
Ibrahimovic (34) said: “It is my 31st trophy and I’m super happy. It feels good. The first official game we play for a trophy and we win. That’s what’s it all about, wining trophies. “Hopefully I can win more than this. We are building something big here.
“It was a difficult game, you can see Leicester are a strong, collective team but (United) are a fantastic team and I have good team-mates and a coach – everyone knows the coach – he wants to win and he does everything to win.
“This is the biggest club I have played in, the only one I compare it to is Milan.”
Meanwhile, Daley Blind believes Manchester United’s Community Shield victory can be the springboard for a Premier League title challenge. Jose Mourinho’s side beat champions Leicester 2-1 in the annual curtain raiser in the English top-flight season at Wembley on Sunday.
While the Shield is not always a reliable barometer of future success, United defender Blind is confident the first silverware of the Mourinho era can be the prelude to bigger prizes. — The Sun-AFP.
