United Refineries eyes Mozambican, Zambian markets

Bulawayo-based agro-processor United Refineries Limited is eyeing the Mozambican and Zambian markets as it seeks resume exports into the region.

Chief executive Mr Busisa Moyo said that they were motivated by the indirect exports of their products into the two markets although most of their products are distributed within the Southern half of the country.

“We distribute 80 percent of our products in the Southern region of the country but our products are found all over the country due to the distribution channels of retail chains such as Ok and TM.

“We are aware that there is demand for our products in the two countries because some of our products are finding their way into Mozambique through Mutare and into Zambia through Victoria Falls,” he said. He added that their focus will be the Tete province in Mozambique and the Livingstone area in Zambia. Mr Moyo said they were also aiming to export into Botswana through Choppies. He said that they were already working on new packaging for their products, especially their soap and re-introducing some brands.

“We are re-launching Image, Vogue and Fresh Health Joy brands which used to be there on the market,” he said.

Mr Moyo said that they were also working on raising $3 million to re-do the soap factory to international standards.

URL, which also manufactures cooking oil, is operating at between 67 and 75 percent but Mr Moyo said they were targeting to increase this to between 85 and 95 percent by December. — BH24
