DYNAMOS FC and Highlanders FC will know this morning whether their proposed Unity Day clash is still on or not.
Zifa spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed yesterday that a decision would be made today. He said the association chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze was working flat out on the proposed match.
“Our position at the moment is not yet confirmed. The chief executive officer Mashingaidze has been in a number of meetings concerning the issue. Hopefully tomorrow we shall be in a position to say the game is on or off,” said Gwesela.
Bosso and DeMbare are the country’s most supported teams and football administrators and politicians have often pushed to have them clash in commemorative matches.
Dynamos have beaten Highlanders five times in their clashes this season.
Despite that fact, the match is still a big seller though its predictability has since taken the gloss off the match.
The organisers of the game would have to raise enough money for camping, allowances and travel expenses for Highlanders as the game would most likely be played in Harare.
Ndumiso Gumede, Highlanders chief executive officer, confirmed yesterday that they had heard about the possibility of the match being played on December 22.
He said nothing official had come through but they would wait to hear from Zifa who appeared to be involved in the organisation of the match.
For both sides due to be under new coaches when the season starts next year, the last match of the season could give indications of new faces to expect.
A big match would befit the occasion but for Bulawayo, the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Half Marathon is expected to go ahead as planned.
