University student volunteers from the “Save the Earth from A to Z” group cleaned around Harare Gardens yesterday, promoting a cleaner and safer public environment.

The initiative saw about 40 participants collect litter throughout the popular park and encourage responsible public behaviour.

ASEZ, a university student volunteer group affiliated with the World Mission Society Church of God, was established in 2015. It focuses on community service, crime prevention, disaster relief, climate action and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“We want to make a positive difference in communities and the world,” said volunteer Obineki Masikati during the clean-up. “Keeping the environment clean is like keeping a home in order, and everyone must take the first step towards a safer and cleaner future.”

Fellow participant Tatenda Hove added that the campaign aimed to “spread love and unity among young people and encourage others to join future clean-up activities.”

In recognition of their global service efforts, the ASEZ group has received over 400 awards, including citations from the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and the United States President’s Volunteer Service Award.
