A Harare security guard appeared in court before magistrate Mrs Sharon Rakafa, charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Norman Muzeya, who is represented by lawyer Mr Liberty Gono, was remanded to Wednesday as the State awaits a ballistic report.

The State alleges that on Friday, at around 3pm, detectives from CID Homicide Harare were told Muzeya was in possession of an unlicensed firearm at 82 Piers Road, Borrowdale, Harare.

The detectives went to the address, questioned and arrested Muzeya, and seized an Escort Magnum shotgun on serial number 424370 hidden in a pile of tree leaves in the yard.

Investigations revealed that the security company that employed Muzeya was not the owner of the recovered firearm.

Muzeya does not have any firearm certificate.
