An  aspiring councillor for Chitungwiza Ward 22 from People’s Rainbow Coalition led by Dr Joice Mujuru was on Tuesday ordered to perform 350 hours of community service for duping a client of his car.

Elton Mandutu (35) appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mrs Blessing Murwisi facing theft of trust property charges.

He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted due to overwhelming evidence produced in court.

Mrs Murwisi initially sentenced him to 18 months in prison, but suspended six months on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.

Two more months were suspended on condition that Mandutu restitutes Gwaze $1 300 by August 31 while the remaining 10 months were suspended on condition that he performs 350 hours of community service at Seke Teachers College.

The State led by Mr Farai Katonha proved that sometime in January last year at Taita Shops in Unit O, Seke, Garikai Gwaze gave Mandutu his motor vehicle, a Nissan Sunny FB13 to sell for $1 500 on his                                                        behalf.

After some time, Gwaze approached Mandutu several times asking for his money, but he failed to account for it even though he had stated that he had sold the motor vehicle.
