UNWTO boss to visit

The golden book of tourism is signed by the country that would have won the bid to host the UNWTO General Assembly.

In an interview on the sidelines of the launch of the Presidential Well Wishers Special Agricultural Inputs Scheme in Harare last week, Tourism and Hospitality Industry permanent secretary Dr Sylvester Maunganidze said the UNWTO boss was scheduled to meet President Mugabe during his visit.

“He is expected to pay a courtesy call on President Mugabe who will sign the golden book of tourism before going to Zambia to meet President Sata for the same purpose as the two countries are scheduled to jointly host the event,” he said.

Dr Maunganidze, however, took a swipe at a local daily that ran a story last week claiming that UN secretary general Mr Ban ki Moon would be coming to Zimbabwe.
He accused the author of failing to get his facts clearly and correctly.
“I told the journalist that the UNWTO secretary general not UN secretary general was coming to meet the Head of State and Government President Mugabe to sign the golden tourism book.”

Zimbabwe and Zambia recently won the bid to jointly host the UNWTO 20th Session of the General Assembly at the Victoria Falls.
Dates for the event have not yet been finalised.

Before the event there will be a UNTWO workshop on satellite accounting in Victoria Falls in the first week of next month.
The meeting is expected to draw delegates from the 15 members of RETOSA.

“Delegates will come from Sadc’s 15 countries for the workshop. It is a United Nations workshop.
“We expect at least two representatives from the UNWTO that is headquartered in Madrid, Spain, to attend,” Dr Maunganidze said.
