UNITED States-based Sean Banda showed Under-18 boys a clean pair of heels in the 100m of the Bulawayo Athletics Board track and field championships at White City Stadium yesterday. Banda is on a scholarship and is in Zimbabwe on holiday. He was first in 11.29 seconds on the slow track.

Running as an independent since he is on holiday and not attached to any club here, Banda was pushed to the finishing line by Sikhulile Secondary School athlete Sherperd Gumede in 11.74 second. Third spot went to Sparrows’ Cleopas Ncube in 11.98 seconds.

In the senior men’s category Reinhard Ndlovu of Nyasha Charumbira’s Academy was first in 10.89 seconds. Independent athlete Nigel Tomu was close by in 10.98 seconds with Tapiwa Pfanyi third in 11.23 seconds.

In the girls’ Under-18 100m event, Clara Mandireva hit the tape in 13.61 seconds. Townsend High School star, Yvonne Vanhuvaone won the 200m sprint in 26.58 seconds with Ruth Taafudza second in 27.93 seconds while Emmaculate  Nyathi of Sparrows settled for the bronze medal position in 28.26 seconds.
