AMERICAN gospel outfit, Maverick City, is bringing its Kingdom Tour to Zimbabwe this August.
The tour, which started in the United States, featuring another gospel powerhouse, Kirk Franklin, will see the group performing at the Glamis Arena in Harare.
Maverick City is a five-time Grammy award winner known for gospel pieces such as ‘Jireh’ and ‘Promises.’
Franklin is also a revered gospel singer with close to 20 Grammy awards and is known for hits such as ‘My Life Is In Your Hands’ and ‘I Smile,’ among others.
Event director, Pastor Lyncs Kapswara, said:
“It is now the Kingdom World Tour so that encompasses other countries, specifically for us, that’s Africa,” Pastor Kapswara said.
“So excited that they’re coming to Zimbabwe, it’s Maverick City together with Kirk Franklin.
“They are the main headliners of this event and so, yeah, they’re going to bringing their music, worship to the nation.”
Pastor Kapswara added that most people got to know of the Maverick City during Covid.
“I think people got to know of the Maverick City during the Covid time, which was a very difficult time for everyone across the world, that’s when a lot of people began to really listen to the music of Maverick,” he said.
“The gospel outfit also started releasing songs that really helped people through a very difficult season.
“Songs like ‘Jireh’ are songs that I believe a lot of people will be able to identify with.”
He added: “Kirk Franklin’s songs like ‘Now Behold The Lamb’, ‘My Life Is In Your Hand’ are songs that I think are old school songs but still resonate with us today.”
