US authorities are investigating a spate of suspected pipe bombs sent this week to some of US President Donald Trump’s most vocal critics, sowing fear less than two weeks before Americans cast their vote in midterm elections.

Those targeted included former US President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Joe Biden, billionaire philanthropist George Soros and CNN, among others.

No one has claimed responsibility and the FBI urged the public to report any tips and be vigilant.

All the suspicious packages were believed to have gone through the US Postal System at some point, reported Reuters news agency, citing an unnamed federal law enforcement source.

According the the FBI, many of the packages had the return address of the Florida office of US Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who formerly chaired the Democratic National Committee. – AFP
